African American film series

FLINT — Communities First, Inc. has partnered with the Flint Institute of Arts to host the third annual African American Film Series. Reception and live entertainment begins at 5:30 p.m. for each date. The series takes place once a month through February. Currently showing Feb. 8 – STEP, a movie which documents the senior year of a girls’ high-school step dance team against the background of inner-city Baltimore and is rated PG (www.foxsearchlight.com/stepmovie/). Reception and live entertainment begins at 5:30 p.m. Films begin at 7 p.m. Seating is limited to 300. Suggested donation is $2 per person. Special Education public hearings to be held

STATEWIDE — The Michigan Department of Education, Office of Special Education will conduct four public hearings to receive public comment on proposed procedures for Significant Disproportionality (more information at link below). Hearings will be held on the proposed rules on:

• Feb. 13, 5-7 p.m. at Crowne Plaza, 925 S Creyts Road, Ballroom E, Lansing, MI 48917

Hot Fudge 5K Run & Walk

BURTON — The Burton Kiwanis club welcomes everyone, especially fudgeoholics, to the 6th Annual Burton Kiwanis Hot Fudge 5K Run & Walk extravaganza!
