2018-19 Friday Applewood Lecture Series

FLINT — The Mott Community College (MCC) Lifelong Learning office announces the 2018-19 Friday Applewood Lecture Series. The next program in the line-up is: Jarret Haynes will present on the restoration of the Capital Theatre on Friday, Oct. 19, 2018 at 10 a.m. Haynes, Executive Director of the Whiting, will share what went into the complete restoration of this Flint gem. This series especially designed for senior citizens, but is open to everyone runs through May. Free concert tonight

FLINT — WKAR sponsors a free concert at the Flint School of Performing Arts, Oct. 19 from 7–8 p.m. at 1025 E. Kearsley Street. Join us for this free concert featuring a delightful evening filled with amazing live music from our esteemed FSPA faculty members, Jessica Cech, flute, Brandon Cota, cello and Brendan Jacklin, piano as they perform “A New Era of Chamber Music”. Guns N’ Hoses Dodgeball

GRAND BLANC — A benefit for and hosted by the Weiss Child Advocacy Center will be held Oct. 25 from 6-10 p.m. at Grand Blanc High School, 12500 Holly Road. 5th Annual Benefit dinner

American Girl Movie Night

GRAND BLANC — Grand Blanc Parks and Recreation hosts an “American Girl” movie, Oct. 26 from 7 – 9 p.m. at the Grand Blanc Senior Center, 12632 Pagels Drive. Bring your sleeping bag and come watch an “American Girl” movie with your favorite doll sponsored by Genisys Credit Union. Includes snacks, popcorn, drinks and a fun craft project to take home. Each child will not need to have an adult with them but we do encourage at least one adult to oversee groups of friends who are attending. Service opportunity

GOODRICH — The Goodrich Lions Club is looking for new members! This local club has been around for 55 years and meet the 2nd and 4th Thursdays at 7 p.m. for a dinner meeting and program at 9196 S. State Road. The Lions Club motto is “We Serve” and members help out local families in need, puts up and maintains the Christmas decorations in the village, support the schools with scholarships, provides youth vision screening, supports Leader Dog for the Blind and other local community projects. Patriotic concert

GRAND BLANC TWP. — New Century Chorale’s 25th season features the theme “My Favorite Things” and begins with their first concert of the season Nov. 4 at 4 p.m. at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church, 9020 South Saginaw Road. This will feature a patriotic theme and Boy Scout Troop #176 will perform a flag ceremony and a presentation of the flags from each branch of the armed services. Donkey Basketball fundraiser

GOODRICH — The Boys Varsity Basketball team will be hosting a Donkey Basketball Classic Fundraiser Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. at Goodrich Middle School, 7480 Gale Road. Proceeds will benefit the Goodrich Varsity Basketball, the Genesee Sheriff/Oakland County K-9 units, and Stephen Strong foundation for a local young man battling cancer. This event features three games of Donkey basketball with Goodrich junior high/high school teachers, Goodrich elementary teachers, Goodrich High School junior/senior student team along with the Genesee/Oakland County K-9 Sheriff departments. First 125 kids under the age of 12 with paid parent admissions ticket will receive a free donkey ride at halftime of the games. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $6 or at the gate for $8. Veteran’s Art Show

HOLLY — The Holly Area Veterans Resource Center is sponsoring a juried art show Nov. 10, at Karl Richter Center, 300 East Street in Holly. Artists of all talent levels can apply, not limited to veterans. All mediums accepted including painting, carving, sculpting, and writing. Artists will be able to display and sell their creations. Fashion Show

ATLAS TWP. — The members of P.E.O. Chapter CW-FN of Grand Blanc will be hosting a fashion show and luncheon Nov. 10 at 11:30 a.m. at Atlas Valley Country Club, 8313 Perry Road. Fashions will be shown from Just Julie’s, Kim Rose and Marta’s. This fundraiser will support the projects of PEO, including loans, grants, scholarships and Cottey College - helping women to continue their education. FISH needs your help

We need food items to feed children in the school district who would normally get breakfast and lunch at school for free, and do not during the summer months.
