What you need to know about voting Nov. 6

Uber, Lyft offers free or discounted rides to polls

GENESEE COUNTY — Currently the criteria for requesting and Application for an Absentee Ballot require residents to be age 60 or over, or advise the clerk they will be out of town and unable to get to the poll on voting day.

Absentee ballots can be requested as late as the Saturday prior to election and must be returned by Nov. 6 to be counted. Additionally, all municipalities must be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Saturday before an election – in this case, Nov. 3 to provide Absentee Ballots.

In addition, voters are reminded that due to recent legislation, they will not be able to vote straight ticket as in the past. Instead, voters are required to select individual candidates for each race.

To help voters prepare for election day, the Michigan Secretary of State website offers a ‘one-stop shop’ with multiple tools to help voters ahead of time. You can view your sample ballot for the upcoming election (based on the address where you are registered to vote), request and track your Absentee Ballot, verify your voter registration, find your polling place, contact local election officials and find answers to Frequently Asked Questions. The site address is: https://www.michigan.gov/sos/0,4670,7-127-1633-49313- -,00.html
